Urie Mendoza Becomes the Botrista August MVP for Elevating Events & More

Spotlight: Urie Mendoza, Botrista Event Marketing Manager

We are thrilled to spotlight our Botrista Event Marketing Manager, Urie Mendoza!

His creative passion and relentless drive have been key to elevating the Botrista brand to new heights.

Bringing the Botrista Brand to Life

Events are a critical part of our marketing strategy at Botrista, and Urie helps bring our brand to life by creating awesome experiences through trade shows and private events. He works cross-functionally with our marketing, sales, and operations teams. “Whether we’re working on fast-casual conferences or new verticals like amusement parks and movie theaters, we’re looking to take Botrista everywhere and continue to help our partners grow.”

A Career Inspired by Family

Urie gives credit to his mom, who was previously a marketing director at Bacardi. “I grew up going to food and beverage shows as a teenager, helping my mom unload cases of product and acting as a barback for the bartenders. When I received the opportunity to join the team at Botrista, it felt like a calling being able to take after my mom. Working in the beverage industry has been a full circle moment.”

From Television to Global Events

Urie started his career working in television, where he worked on shows such as The Dr. Oz Show, The Chew, and The View. “That’s where I learned to wear many different hats. From booking talent, to developing segments for the shows, and audience coordination, I was able to learn how to be flexible and very nimble.” After departing from television, Urie took a role at Soho House, a private members club with locations around the globe. “In my two years there, I’ve produced incredible events, including ones for Dior and HBO.” Urie has also made significant contributions during his time at Off the Grid, Amazon, and Cashapp. “I really loved working in these roles because I was able to find my niche within technology, while making tech events more approachable.”

Finding Meaning in Every Interaction

Staying motivated in his role is easy, because Urie finds joy in bridging the gaps between B2B and B2C. “Bridging gaps between consumers, customers and products is my passion. If we’ve earned the consumer’s time to try our product or experience Botrista, I like to make the most of their time and make it worth their while. Creating memorable experiences that allow people to connect to the brand and our product is how we win the hearts of our partners and consumers.”

The Power of Connection

With over 500 events under his belt, Urie’s learned that making connections is one of the most important aspects of his field. “I like to take time during events to find inspiration and meet other event planners. My network was really built on myself and other event planners doing favors for each other. My connections to others in this industry is a big reason why I’m able to secure unique activations, cool swag items, and access to new spaces.” Urie mentions, “If you want to work in events, you have to keep an open mind and a collaborative mindset. After all – we’re just here to have a good time!”

Creativity at the Heart of His Work

Urie says he has the best time when he gets to work with the marketing team. “Whether we’re working on swag items, gifts, or new ways to connect businesses to our product, being in a creative mindset is very fulfilling. Being able to build, create, and even use my personal stamp to build on our events is by far the most exciting part of my role.”

A Passion for Travel and Community

“I’ve traveled to many places, including Asia, South America, The Middle East, Africa, but never Europe. I think that’s the next place I need to go to, specifically to London and Paris. My favorite places I’ve traveled to were Japan and Brazil, I’d love to take another trip to Japan and visit Kyoto again”.

Outside of work, Urie plays in a competitive LGBT dodgeball league. “I have so much fun playing every Monday night, it’s a cathartic outlet to let off some stress while connecting with friends. I’m also a sucker for karaoke, any venue with a disco ball, and of course, a delicious Mission burrito.”

His Biggest Inspirations

“My biggest influence is my mom. I grew up in a single parent household, so she played the role of both parents. She’s taught me so much about work ethic and making the life you want for yourself happen. Lady Gaga, though, is my biggest creative inspiration. I’ve gone to every tour since I was in high school. I really admire her for taking big creative swings when it comes to her work. I try to exercise that same courage to take unique approaches in the creative process when it comes to building experiences”.

Urie’s Favorite Botrista Beverage

Urie’s favorite Botrista beverage comes from our energy lemonade lineup. “I’ll always gravitate towards our strawberry energy lemonade for a midday pick me up!”

Thank You, Urie!
