Meet Alex — The Innovator Behind Botrista’s DrinkBot Hardware & Software
Alex brings a unique blend of engineering talent, creative problem-solving, and industry experience to Botrista. Before joining us, he worked at Zume, where he focused on transforming the food industry, and at Coral, where he helped build automated fingernail-painting devices. After Coral, Alex felt called back to food and beverage—and to Botrista.
“I was inspired to join Botrista because of my previous experience working with Sean Hsu,” Alex explains. “After consulting for a short period, the timing felt right to jump in full-time.”
What Alex Does at Botrista
Alex manages the development of both the hardware and software that power DrinkBot. He is the behind-the-scenes force turning ideas into reality.
“My day is mostly about collecting ideas, figuring out what we should build next, and creating a clear plan to bring those features to life,” he says.
His work ensures that every DrinkBot improvement—from dispensing logic to new user tools—supports Botrista’s mission of simple, scalable beverage innovation.
Collaboration Across the Globe
Alex works closely with Botrista’s talented engineering team in Taiwan.
“I feel very lucky to work with such smart people in both the United States and Taiwan,” he shares. “Our engineers in Taiwan constantly share their knowledge and help me design features and systems in better and more efficient ways.”
One of Alex’s favorite memories at Botrista was meeting the Taiwan team in person.
“I work with them every day online, so visiting in June was incredibly rewarding. Getting to know them, seeing their day-to-day life, and trying new foods made the entire trip unforgettable.”
Life Outside of Work
Alex loves staying active, especially on weekends. His perfect Sunday includes:
a morning boxing class
an afternoon at the pottery studio making ceramics
time spent catching up with family and friends
He also admits he’s a bit of an adrenaline junkie.
“I used to build and race off-roading cars, I’ve gone skydiving, I’m scuba certified, I used to fly planes, and I once owned a motorcycle!”
His passion for building things started in college, where he joined the Baja racing team and helped grow it from a small group to more than 50 people—an experience he compares to scaling a startup.
Alex’s Favorite Drink
Alex’s go-to Botrista drink is the Matcha Latte.
“Before Botrista, I didn’t like matcha. Now it has opened up a whole new beverage experience for me!”
